St. John’s Wort, the ally of damaged skin
Originating from the genus Hypericum, St. John’s Wort is a herbaceous plant that can reach ten metres in height. Its yellow flowers are comprised of five petals and the plant produces fruit that burst when they mature. Its name comes from the old French “pertuis” (hole) and refers to the many translucent glands that certain species carry on their leaves. It gives the impression they are pierced with a thousand holes.
The essential oil is obtained by maceration of the flower heads in olive oil. After exposure to the sun for three weeks, the oil becomes coloured by hypericin, a red pigment with pain relieving, healing and anti-inflammatory properties. The beneficial nature will be welcomed on your skin.
